The History of Loving Hands Ranch

Loving Hands Ranch began in the hearts of Tim and Ann Moore.

Tim and Ann Moore

Loving Hands Ranch was incorporated in 1983.  By 1985, Loving Hands Ranch was given thirty acres of land just outside Sulphur. The 3,500 square foot Bunkhouse has seven bedrooms and five bathrooms.  It is a testimony to the goodness and greatness of God. The entire structure was built by volunteers and donated material.

For the next ten years, LHR was a foster home for several boys who attended the Oklahoma School for the Deaf.

Construction wasn't even finished when boys started moving in.

Many of these boys had been expelled from the school's dorm and needed a structured environment of love and direction.

The Hagenbacks were house parents in the 1980s.  Cary (center) was the first foster boy.

The Shaws were house parents in the mid 1990s.

After ten years of providing foster care, LHR redirected our ministry to a summer camping program for Deaf children.

The camping program began in the original bunkhouse but soon outgrew that facility.  Over several years, LHR built four cabins with donated material and volunteer labor. Each cabin can accommodate ten campers.

For several years, LHR hosted the camps without an adequate facility to feed the growing number of campers.

In 2000, LHR received a grant enabling them to erect a large multi-purpose building with a commercial kitchen. The building contains a gymnasium, restrooms, a stage, an office, cook's bedroom, large staff quarters, game room, and craft room.

The Main Building

The Lord has sent many gifted craftsmen and handymen who keep the grounds in top shape.

Jerry Sledge helped with construction on many of the buildings that LHR now enjoys.

The Sledges

The Lord has blessed us with Richard Dietzel who moved from Pennsylvania to Sulphur.  Richard takes care of maintenance on the buildings and equipment, does construction, and keeps the campground mowed and looking nice.  Richard also serves on the LHR board.

As the ministry has grown and expanded, LHR is now sending a Deaf missionary to the Dominican Republic.  Working with other Christian groups, Loving Hands Ranch has established two schools for the Deaf in the Dominican Republic.

God has accomplished these amazing works without incurring debt and with minimal paid wages. For this we give God all the glory.

God has touched so many people with a desire to help make Loving Hands Ranch live up to its name. Indeed the ministry is the result of many loving hands reaching out to a Deaf world in need of the love of God.
